Getting to the Dandenong Ranges

By Road - From Melbourne

City to Dandenong Ranges (via Eastlink Tollway) – Make your way onto the Eastern Freeway and travel towards Ringwood. The Eastern Freeway turns into the Eastlink Toolway after Springvale Road. If you have an Eastlink or Citylink pass, continue on the Eastlink Tollway and go through the Mullum Mullum tunnel. Take the Canterbury Road exit, then turn left towards Montrose. Once in Montrose, take the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road and follow through to the Dandenong Ranges.

By Public Transport

Public Transport Victoria has regular trains heading to Belgrave Station. From Belgrave Station, catch a Ventura bus to Olinda and Sassafras.

Melbourne to Olinda (49kms) – 55 minutes

Melbourne to Belgrave (46kms) – 45 minutes

Healesville to Olinda (39kms) – 40 minutes

Healesville to Belgrave (45kms) – 45 minutes

Key Tourism Attractions

Gardens – The cool climate region provide the perfect conditions for ornamental display gardens with over ten to choose from on a grand scale.

Scenic drives - the abundance of winding roads throughout the ranges provide the perfect way to experience the towering mountain ash, fern gullies and farmgates

Picnics - there are literally too many places to list from private romantic places to top spots for the family to have a BBQ. 

Shops and Stays - The various coffee shops and restaurants, bed and breakfasts, craft shops, antique shops and nurseries keep visitors from leaving.

Puffing Billy Railway - a narrow-gauge heritage steam railway, from Belgrave to Gembrook

Lookouts & Views -There are several locations throughout the Dandenong Ranges that offer spectacular views on both sides of the range. On a clear day, features as far as Mount Macedon, the You Yangs and Port Phillip Bay can be seen simultaneously. While the impressive views across to the blue and green colour of the Great Dividing Range are superb especially at sunrise.

Walking & Hiking—various tracks and trails are available at a variety of lengths and difficulties.

Cycling—the Dandenong Ranges are one of Melbourne's most popular cycling areas. Whether it be the off road Mountain Bike trails or popular road cycling climbs.
